Wood Oven Fired Pizza

Wood Fired Pizza is the BEST

Remember the first time you had a slice of pizza? Remember all that oozing cheese married sumptuously to tangy sauce, so hot it burnt the roof of your mouth? Hand’s down, it was the best thing you ever ate, and you could hardly wait for more.

Somewhere along the way, though, pizza lost its magic. It was satisfying and familiar, but it had lost its original wow factor. In fact, sometimes it was downright heavy and bland.

When you taste the pizza at Stonehurst Manor, you’ll fall in love all over again. Our secret lies in the fact that we cook our pies the old-fashioned way, in a traditional wood-fired oven. This method is used throughout Italy to produce pizza that is cooked to perfection, with a crisp crust and toppings that are subtly enhanced by the smoky flavor of the wood.

Why Wood-Fired Ovens Are the Best

What makes cooking pizza in a wood-fired oven superior is the thick walls absorb heat, ensuring an even flow of heat both to the crust and toppings. That, combined with temperatures that exceed 500 degrees, helps to sear the outside of the pizza so that you get the desired lightness.

Pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven only take a few minutes, but in that time they absorb the flavor of the wood smoke, which adds a rich and delicate taste to the toppings that cannot be achieved in any other way.

The Perfect Dough for the Perfect Pie

Wood Fired PizzaThe classic pizza dough uses white flour, salt, olive oil and just a touch of added sugar to feed the yeast while the dough proofs, or rises. This is pizza crust you know.

Traditional Neopolitan pizza dough uses neither sugar nor oil — it is just yeast, salt and flour. The secret to this dough is allowing the dough to rise for a long period of time so that the sugars in the flour convert and feed the yeast. The result is the very thin crust for which Italian pizza is famous.

At Stonehurst Manor, we use our own Manor made Pomodoro with imported tomatoes from Italy and our own hand-crafted mozzarella in our Signature Sourdough Pizzas.
