Some Chocolate Festival Fun!

Monday, February 21st, 2011

The 22nd annual Chocolate Festival was Sunday, February 27th in the Mt. Washington Valley and was a smashing success.  Were you afraid to break your New Year’s resolution diet so early in the year?  Well, this was a fabulous time to eat however much chocolate you wanted and not feel the guilt later because cross country skiing or snowshoeing were involved in making the way to all of the chocolaty treats at each inn!  There were over 700 participants this year and the Stonehurst Manor was producing chocolate martinis at an impressive rate.  Make sure and put this event on your calendar for next year, it is a real treat.

Some of the delightful snacks you could enjoy along the way included brownie sundaes, chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolate cookies and many more.  The stops for the Chocolate Festival were on the trail between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm.  Some of the trail side chocolate stops included Adventure Suites, Eastern Inns and yours truly, Stonehurst Manor.  The tradition of skiing from inn to inn for The Chocolate Festival has been maintained for over 20 years.  Hopefully you didn’t miss out on this special annual event!  All proceeds went to maintaining the mountain trails.  Tickets were $20 or you could have purchased them for $25 the day of the festival.

So now you wish you didn’t miss out on the Sunday at the Chocolate Festival, but you still want to spend some of your time in North Conway?  Check out our lodging specials.

Just call us at 1-800-525-9100 or go online to make your reservations for a fun filled weekend!

Autumn Attire in the White Mountains

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Foliage_Water   Leaves

Every year from late September through October, the White Mountains go into their “fashion mode” and decide to deck themselves out in their gaudiest finery for all to see. And, what a show! From every vantage point, whether driving, hiking or biking, you’ll see LOTS of color… the reds, oranges, yellows and russets of maples, birches, oaks and sumac set against the dark greens of tall, stately pines. On clear days, when the sky is impossibly blue, this panorama of vibrant color just shimmers before your eyes. You can’t help but be totally amazed by this earthly miracle. Forget all the scientific explanations… it’s just plain GORGEOUS!

As for YOUR attire in the autumnal season, any fashion choice of sweaters, fleece vests and waterproof jackets are in order even if the temperatures are warm during the day. It’s New England after all and you never know when the weather is going to change! Packing for all contingencies is especially important if you’re hking or biking in the hills. Above certain elevations or even on Main Street, there’s always a possibility of snow or icy rain at a moment’s notice. So, be a good scout and come prepared!

A collection of foliage season photographs can be found at http://bobgrantphotography.com/fall_summer.htm. Bob’s been "shooting the Valley" for years and has created a fantastic visual history of the area. Check it out!

Weather forecasts for the North Conway area can be found at http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?zoneid=NHZ004. Type in The Manor’s zip code — 03860 — and hit GO. Voila! A detailed run-down of what to expect weather-wise while visiting Mt. Washington Valley and Stonehurst Manor! No guarantees but…

Thrill seekers and adventurous nature lovers alike will NEVER forget the Canopy Tour at Bretton Woods! It’s the longest tree-top zip line tour in New England at 3.5 hours and well worth every minute. You descend over 1,000 feet in elevation on dual-cables (very safe) between a series of platforms with hiking trails and suspension bridges as connectors. Adventure Guides accompany you all the way and describe the surrounding area, its natural history and other White Mountains lore. Less adventurous but “what the heck” types may want to try their 20-minute Williwaw Dual Racing Zip to get a sampling of what it’s all about. Laughing while you scream is part of the fun! Click above for details about reservations and rates, what to bring, etc.

North Conway Attractions

If you want to get "up close and personal" with the White Mountains, take a trip through Crawford Notch on Conway Scenic Railroad’s "Notch Train".  It’s a 5+ hour round-trip ride leaving the center of North Conway Village at 11:00 am several days a week in summer and fall and WELL worth the time. The views are beyond sensational… what you don’t see on the way up, you’ll see on the way back! There’s a snack bar on board but box lunches are also available if ordered with your reservation. Click on the link above for details!

You can also take trips on the "Valley Trains" that go from the North Conway Station to Conway Village or Bartlett Village. They are shorter excursions and can be fit in before or after lunch, shopping or any other activity.
