Craft fairs are lining the White Mountain Highway for the fourth of July and they are full of unique artisans.  Find items that will have all of your friends at home wishing they could buy their own pair of earrings or have the same original artwork as you.  The fireworks begin at dusk in the center of the village in Schouler park, but be sure to get there early because our whole community rallies around this show!  Come be a part of our neighborhood by standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the Valley’s finest and enjoying the extravaganza!  Then fall back into our comfortable beds and start your day all over again!

Activities in Mt. Washington Valley

It never stops here in the Valley.  As the temperature warms up so does the excitement.  Take a look at this view of the snow-capped Presidential mountain range.  I took this photo on a hike we took today.  While you enjoy your stay at the Stonehurst Manor, get ready for your day bright and early because there is so much to do that you may not make it back until dinner time!  Which is quite all right because delicious and unique New England cuisine will be waiting for you after a long hiking trip.

Right now, as you think about taking time off, make sure you know the activities that are available during the season of your travel.  Activities in Mt. Washington Valley are numerous and local businesses and non-profits have come up with some great ideas to entertain you.  Coming up, look out for Scotland in the Valley, which comes complete with a whiskey tasting.  The Balloon Festival is great opportunity to get a hot air balloon ride.

Activities in Mt. Washington Valley can also be found in the woods through hiking or on the green with the Valley’s many beautiful golf courses.  Art museums and lakes or bike paths and the old Victorian train station in the middle of Schouler Park all offer different ways to experience North Conway.

When you walk out of the Stonehurst Manor, you have so many options of something to do.  With the White Mountains as our playground there is anything to fit your needs or interests.  Or if you don’t feel like going out, you can always stay in!  With Stonehurst’s beautiful décor, welcoming fireplaces, vibrant gardens and cozy rooms you won’t find yourself bored on their grounds either!

Hiking keeps you young in the mind, body and soul.

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Some of the things that the Mt. Washington Valley is so lucky to have are Mountains for great hiking trips and the Stonehurst Manor.  Not every place in the world has the peaks we have or the level of hospitable lodging accommodations!

We are home to the highest peak in the Northeast, the Mount Washington.  Which stands at 6,288 feet high and holds the record for the fastest wind ever recorded by man at 231 miles per hour.  If this historic site doesn’t convince you to hike up the trail, then the comfortable setting of the Stonehurst Manor and all of the things you can do on the mountains in the Valley should!

When you wake up to the sun shining through your bedroom window in one of Stonehurst’s beautiful rooms and a hearty and flavorful New England Breakfast waiting to fill you up, you can take on any hiking adventure.  That includes the hundreds of trails all over the Valley that take you to peaks that give you a 360 degree view of nature at its best.  Check out Appalachian Mountain Club’s or Eastern Mountain Sport’s website as both will give you great perspectives on what the mountains in our Valley can offer.

Let us at the Stonehurst Manor get you feeling refreshed with our luxurious rooms, friendly staff and comforting food and let the mountains of the Valley give you a whole new meaning to your vacation and to your life.  The fresh air and the beautiful scenery greeting you right at your room will be all you need to stay young in the mind, body and soul! Call us now to make a reservation!

Annual Chocolate Festival Feb. 28, 2010

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Known as the “Sweetest Day on the Trails", the Annual Chocolate Festival on Sunday, Feb, 28 may be the only day of the year when chocolate cravings are encouraged! Choco-holics can work off the guilt (what guilt?) while cross country skiing or snowshoeing inn-to-inn on the 65km trail system maintained by the Mt. Washington Valley Ski Touring Association. Locals and visitors return year after year to enjoy the Chocolate Festival, often returning with a larger group of friends each time!

Presented as a fund-raiser by the MWVSTA, it’s exciting to see how this event has gained popularity and attendees over the past twenty years! We’ve also heard that many people mark their calendars each year and come from great distances to enjoy the spectacular scenery, warm hospitality, and great chocolate treats at stops throughout the network.

The Festival will be held rain or shine, snow or no snow. In case of inclement weather or poor trail conditions, attendees are invited to walk, drive, and shuttle between participating inns and businesses. The extended forecast predicts a chance of precipitation for several days this week. Since we’re in New England, we’ll have to wait to see what this brings. Think Snow!

Avoid the crowds and SAVE with advance online ticket purchases! Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 when purchased on Festival day at the MWVSTA Touring Center located at Ragged Mountain Equipment, Route 16 in Intervale. (Online orders received after noon on Monday, Feb 22 will be held for pick up at the Touring Center. Tickets are non-refundable. Sorry, all season pass holders must purchase the Festival Pass to indulge in the chocolate treats!)
