New Hampshire Lodging
Over the years, these often rustic New Hampshire lodging accommodations were seen as unsuitable for the increasing number
of families moving north to seek a clean slate and a new life away from
the crowded cities to the south. Hotels upgraded their facilties to include separate
rooms for ladies and children (instead of the narrow, straw-filled
bunks used by single men), added comfortable, homey touches like real
horsehair mattresses, privacy curtains, flowered sofas, and even a
closet to hang New Hampshire lodging clothes.
Providing hospitable lodgings is a grand tradition in New England, especially in the White Mountains. New Hampshire lodging
accommodations meet certain requirement anyone traveling these days looks for; a roof over one's head, shelter from the storm,
a respite from being on the move. The women and children couldn't be
expected to camp out in barns or often filthy rooms so the enterprising
and entrepreneurial hosts of the day siezed upon the significance of
this turning tide, and started looking for new ways to accomodate their guests
Over 200 years ago, Yankee ingenuity and native wit
answered the need for shelter by itinerant adventurers by creating a
network of wayside hostelries where anyone traveling the highways and
byways of the north country could find a place to sleep, a hot bath, a
hearty meal, strong drink, amiable companionship, the latest news...
and a place for their horse as well.
And, the reinvention of the grand hotel concept is seen
in full-service luxury resorts replete with spas, massage therapists
and whirlpool hot tubs.
These New Hampshire lodging improvements quickly became popular and
necessary for the male of the species! From grand hotels in equally
grand settings to charming owner-operated Bed and breakfast and country inns in
equally quaint towns and villages, there was a room for everyone's
taste and pocketbook.
Customer demand for amenities has increased as
travelers have the time and money to indulge themselves in the
lifestyle of the rich and famous. Families continue to seek healthy
activities for children and find them in the natural world of lakes and
rivers as well as in man-made attractions and theme parks throughout
the region. There is plenty of fun to be had in any of the towns nearby.
Modern times and modes of transportation have
also created the need for no-frills motels and generic motor inns with
swimming pools in New Hampshire lodging.
