2013 NH Skiing Season Sneak Peek!

By now you have almost certainly dusted off your helmet, sharpened your skis, and started to dream of carving your way through fresh corduroy on your favorite slope. Now it’s time to sit down, and really start planning your 2012-2013 ski season adventures. To that end, we’d like to offer you a bit of advice: take a good long look at what New Hampshire has to offer, and then look no further!

Of all the places in the country, and in the world for that matter, that you can choose from to ski this year, you might be wondering why New Hampshire? Besides saying that you have to experience it for yourself to see and to truly understand, we can give you some substantial and convincing reasons to visit us this ski season.

A ski trip to New Hampshire is about the variety of mountains, the striking scenery, and the overall experience. New Hampshire offers over 30 resorts for skiers, riders, and cross country touring. These resorts are spread all throughout the State of New Hampshire, but there is a noticeable concentration here in the Mount Washington Valley. The Valley offers visitors 11 resorts to choose from, including Wildcat, Jackson Ski Touring, Attitash-Bear Peak, Cranmore, Bretton Woods, King Pine and Shawnee Peak. Each area is unique in its terrain, lifts, lodges, and scenery. Most offer a view of the famed Presidential Range Mountains, but no two will offer the same exact perspective. For example, Bretton Woods is known for its view of the Northern slopes of Mount Washington from which you can see the Cog Railroad and each of the neighboring high peaks, while Wildcat is renowned for its views of Huntington and Tuckerman Ravines on Washington’s opposite side. Both are, in a word, stunning.

NH Skiing 2012

Each summer, many of New Hampshire’s ski areas take a good hard look at their stake in ski country and focus in on capital improvements. This year is no exception despite tough economic times. Black Mountain in Jackson has invested in its snowmaking and has effectively doubled its capacity to create a great base and cover the slopes! Cranmore has added sixty new snow guns and upgraded one of its last double chairlifts to a triple, which will offer skiers and riders more time on the slopes and less time in lines! Many other ski areas in the Mount Washington Valley have embarked on their own improvement projects to enhance your ski experience.

Vacationers who pick New Hampshire as their destination will also want to make sure that their family is both welcomed and guaranteed a good time on the slopes. Each of the Valley’s ski areas offers incredible values for their junior skiers and riders, and their youth programs are certainly worth looking into. Check with each individual mountain and resort for specific details.

And what would a ski trip be without the promise of a great Après Ski? If you’re the kind of skier or rider who loves a great after party, the Mount Washington Valley’s ski areas know how to get down! From great local, handcrafted brews to live music and entertainment, each lodge offers something special for its patrons who stick around. And by the way, if sticking around isn’t your thing, that’s perfectly fine because we have you covered here at the Stonehurst Manor with our full array of food, libations, and comforts!
